Small Businesses Can Benefit from
Economic Stimulus Legislation
The National Restaurant
Association (NRA) has helped the restaurant industry secure valuable tax
benefits through the recent economic stimulus package.
The stimulus plan is
intended to boost consumer confidence and spending through direct tax rebates to
individual taxpayers, and to encourage business activity through investment tax
incentives. Two specific provisions of the legislation - small business
(Section 179) expensing and bonus depreciation - may be of value to
small businesses.
Small businesses would benefit from a provision that
would double the amount they could write off for new investments under Section
179 of the tax code. That means a business that places less than $800,000 of
equipment into service this year could immediately deduct up to $250,000 - up
from $125,000 - of its investment in 2008. Businesses will also be able to
immediately deduct 50 percent of the cost of certain new investments.
To find other ways to
benefit from the package, click here.
The NRA is soliciting
examples of how restaurants plan to take advantage of the Section 179 expensing
and bonus depreciation benefits. Send your stories to Meredith Nethercutt at
mnethercutt@restaurant.org.

Lodging
Conference to be Held at 2009 Show
We are pleased to announce that
the first-ever Midwest Lodging Conference sponsored by Minnesota Lodging
magazine will be held in conjunction with the 2009 Upper Midwest Foodservice
& Lodging Show, February 23 and 24 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The
conference will offer attendees the opportunity to increase their industry
knowledge by attending specific education sessions and hearing from keynote
speakers targeted to the lodging industry. In addition, attendees will be given
the opportunity to network with their industry peers on the expansive Show floor
and at social events.
The
incorporation of the Midwest Lodging Conference will encourage greater hotelier
participation, thus increasing the visibility of exhibitors' products and
services to a wider variety of qualified buyers comprised of hoteliers, as well
as those involved in the foodservice industry.
For more
information regarding the Midwest Lodging Conference, please contact Susan
Larson, Director of Association Partnerships & Shows, at (651) 778-2400 or
