ProStart Students Play a Big Part in Taste of the NFL Event
While Super Bowl LII may be over, 83 high school students from Minnesota's ProStart program are still celebrating their involvement in a star-studded event, the Taste of the NFL. Saturday, February 3, was the 26th annual gathering of this event which brings together celebrity chefs and NFL players to celebrate great food and raise money for hunger related programs. This year’s event helped raise more than $1 million for hunger relief!
The ProStart students from various high schools in Minnesota worked on Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3, to assist the celebrity chefs in preparing, plating and serving their small plate creations. The Chefs were excellent mentors to the students and very complimentary of their efforts.
Our thanks to the teachers who coordinated and supervised the students, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation for providing chef coats for each student, and to Ecolab for being a major Taste of the NFL sponsor. Michael Hickey, an Executive Vice President at Ecolab, made the suggestion that the Taste of the NFL should invite ProStart students to help with the event. This was a big win for the future of hospitality in Minnesota and we hope this begins a new tradition of including ProStart students at each Taste of the NFL event!
The first Taste of the NFL occurred in Minneapolis for Super Bowl XXVI and was created by former Minnesota Restaurant Association President, Wayne Kostroski. The annual event has raised over $25 million for food charities including Second Harvest Heartland in the Twin Cities.
The selected ProStart students and teachers were from the following schools:
